Developer Notice — Alyxer Game Studios
BlackReach is a cooperative horror experience set in and around Facility 12, a classified government research installation built inside a deep cave system. All personnel and events depicted are fictional. Any resemblance to actual containment breaches is REDACTED.
BlackReach drops up to five players into the cave entrance of Facility 12 — a decommissioned government research site abandoned following a catastrophic containment failure. Players must coordinate across distinct operational roles, navigate two environments, recover key items, and locate an exit before the surviving experiments find them.
There is no respawn. There is only the team, the dark, and whatever is moving in it.
NOTE: Players who are downed may be revived by the designated Medic. Failure to reach a downed player within a reasonable timeframe will result in permanent incapacitation for that round.
All squads deploying into Facility 12 must select from the following five operational roles. Each role fills a specific function. Duplicate assignments are not permitted.
| Role ID |
Title |
Primary Function |
Critical? |
| AX-R01 | Commander | Squad coordination, decision authority, movement direction. Keeps the team organized under pressure. | YES |
| AX-R02 | Medic | Heals injured teammates. Only role capable of reviving downed players. Non-negotiable for survival. | YES |
| AX-R03 | Engineer | Repairs generators, doors, and facility systems required to unlock deeper areas of the complex. | YES |
| AX-R04 | Tracker | Operates motion scanner to detect nearby entities before the squad makes contact with them. | RECOMMENDED |
| AX-R05 | Security | Perimeter watch. Protects the squad during stationary operations. Alerts to approaching threats. | RECOMMENDED |
Three entities have been confirmed active within Facility 12 and the surrounding cave system. All entities are considered hostile. Players are advised to avoid direct contact at all times.
Physical Description
Thin humanoid. No discernible facial features. Elongated arms hang low during locomotion. Origin lab: CLASSIFIED.
Detection Method
Visual — line of sight. Tilts head upon spotting a target. Brief pause precedes pursuit. Do not wait for confirmation.
Movement Profile
Idle: intermittent twitching. Patrol: unnatural jerky gait. Pursuit: rapid and aggressive. Faster than human movement speed.
Containment Notes
Escaped Lab ██ during the ████████ incident. All prior containment procedures have proven ineffective.
Physical Description
Former Facility 12 security personnel. Uniform still present. Carries a malfunctioning flashlight emitting an intermittent beam. Status: NON-HUMAN.
Detection Method
Flashlight beam contact. If beam makes contact with a player, entity immediately transitions to pursuit. No warning interval.
Movement Profile
Patrol: slow, deliberate. Flashlight scans left and right continuously. Pursuit: immediate sprint. No acceleration phase observed.
Containment Notes
Identity: ████████████. Assigned post: REDACTED. Do not approach regardless of apparent distress signals.
Physical Description
Tall. Shadow-like composition. No confirmed solid form. Long limbs. Found exclusively in cave tunnel sections. Origin: UNKNOWN.
Detection Method
Unknown. Entity may respond to proximity. Remains stationary for extended periods. Stillness should not be interpreted as safety.
Movement Profile
Extremely slow. Slight floating quality to locomotion. Head turns gradually toward player positions. Long idle periods before movement.
Containment Notes
No containment protocol successfully implemented. Current directive: AVOID. Do not engage. Do not linger in vicinity.
Players will traverse two primary environments during each deployment. These zones are interconnected and in several locations have physically merged due to structural deterioration.
- Dark, unlit rocky tunnels
- Moisture accumulation — dripping ceilings
- Narrow passages limiting group movement
- Abandoned mining equipment throughout
- Primary habitat of AX-E03 (The Drifter)
- Long laboratory corridors
- Containment rooms with compromised seals
- Security checkpoints and locked doors
- Generator rooms — power management required
- Partially destroyed research labs
MERGE ZONES: Multiple areas exhibit structural integration between cave formations and facility architecture. Rock intrusions through lab walls and tunnel sections cutting through research stations are common. Standard navigation methods may not apply.
- EntrySquad deploys at the cave entrance. Establish comms, assign roles, begin descent.
- ExplorationNavigate both the cave system and Facility 12. Identify locked areas and required access items.
- Item RecoveryLocate keycards, power sources, and other key items required to unlock sealed sections of the complex.
- System RestorationEngineer restores power to necessary systems. Doors, checkpoints, and progression gates require active power.
- Entity AvoidanceAll three entities are active. Tracker monitors for threats. Security maintains watch during stationary operations.
- ExtractionLocate the extraction point and get the squad out. Failure to extract before CONDITIONS MET results in mission failure.
Role-Locked Co-op
Each role is unique and non-duplicatable. All five serve a mechanical purpose. A squad missing the Engineer or Medic will not complete the mission.
Unique Entity AI
Each entity detects players differently — sight, flashlight beam, or unknown proximity. Players must learn each entity's behavior to survive.
Dynamic Power Systems
Power outages affect lighting, locked doors, and checkpoints. A dead generator can strand the squad. The Engineer is not optional.
Revive Mechanic
Downed players can be revived by the Medic. Leaving a teammate behind is a choice — one the rest of the squad has to live with.
Merged Environments
Two zones that physically collide in unexpected places. Navigation becomes unreliable the deeper the squad goes into the complex.
Squad Lobby System
Create or join squads from the main lobby. Select roles, ready up, and deploy together. All players enter the facility simultaneously.
